Thank you to the parents who were involved in organizing and contributing to the Halloween Dance last week.  There were so many amazing costumes and treats.  This is a busy week so try to get those kiddos to bed on time so that they are their best selves at school and please limit the number of sugary treats in their lunches at school if possible.

TERRY FOX RUN: THURSDAY, SEPT. 26th, 2019

Dear Parents/Guardians;

Please join us for our school Terry Fox Run.  If you would like to volunteer, please let me know.

Things to remember:

• It is super hero day, so wear a cape or costume if you have one.
• Send a labeled water bottle with your child so they can drink during the 30 minute run/walk.
• Make a donation for cancer research. If $600 is raised, Ms.Ives and Ms.Walker will wear Sumo Wrestling outfits and wrestle it out at a Morning Assembly.  If $800 is raised, Ms.McLaren shave her head on October 2^nd.  Donation deadline is October 2^nd, 2019.
• This week our school is proud to take part in this year’s Terry Fox Run for cancer research. Terry never gave up – and neither will we. We hope you will support us by donating at: https://www.terryfox.ca/RuthKingElementary
• Students with sheets filled with 5 donations will be automatically entered into a draw to win a bike.Click here to download a pledge sheet and copy.

The day of the run:

11:55 – students will have hotdogs delivered to the classrooms along with fruit/veggies and a drink.  Lunch is sponsored by the Ruth King PAC.

12:10 – play time outside

12:35 – bell to come inside

12:40 – attendance taken by the teacher and then brought down to the gym in your color teams.

12:45 –  short talk about Terry and a video.  Running/walking routes will be described as well as safety precautions while participating.

12:55 – Mr. Stephenson will do a “Health Hustle” warm up with everyone.

1:15 – running begins, led by your team color captains. Running will be approx. 30 minutes with music playing             outside.  See route below.

1:45 – water and oranges will be served either in the gym or outside depending on the weather.

2:00 –  meet back in the gym for closing remarks.

ROUTE for All Students:

• head out of the gym doors and across the field
• run along the inside of the fence on Matson Road – spotter **volunteer
• take a right and run along the fence by the apartment building – spotter on the corner**volunteer
• take a right turn and run along fence on Jacklin Road – spotter on the corner**volunteer
• run past the playground equipment and along the back of the school.- spotter here**volunteer
• take a left turn past the intermediate playground area and run along the inside of the fence on Jacklin and Goldstream – spotter on each corner**volunteer

Dear Parents/Guardians,

It was really great to see everyone out at the school on Thursday night.  The students were so happy to introduce you to their new teachers and my staff is very excited for another great year.  We have a great new PAC (Parent Advisory Committee) with some familiar faces and some new faces which is always nice to see.  Please come out to the PAC meetings and have your voice heard in making decisions for your child’s education.  The PAC meets every month on the second Tuesday. (See calendar for important dates).

Ruth King Elementary School September 16 to 20th 2019

Greetings Students and Families!  Welcome to another school year at Ruth King Elementary!  We have several new students this year including our three classes of kindergarten students.  Our enrolment has increased by about 25 students, bringing our total enrolment up to 318 students.

For those of you that do not know, I will be sending a weekly email to try to keep you informed about upcoming events that are taking place at the school.  Feel free to email me if you have questions or concerns.  If you know someone that should be on this email list, but is not getting my emails, please get them to call the office with their current email address so we can make sure everyone is in the loop.

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome a few new staff members at Ruth King Elementary and to let you all know the staff members names.

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Tomorrow, Friday, September 6th, your child will be introduced to their new classroom teacher around 9:00am.  We have worked hard to make the classrooms equitable for all.  We have taken many things into consideration when building the classrooms.  We understand that we can not make everyone happy, but we ask that you talk to your child about makig new friends, that changes are hard but that they can do it, and encourage them to be flexible in their thinking.  Change is hard for most of us, but with time, we often come to embrace the change.

Please remember to make a meeting spot with your child in the morning when you drop them off, as they may be using a different exit door at the end of the day.

• Please bring school supplies tomorrow.
• Hot lunches start on Monday, Sept. 9th, forms will be coming home soon.
• After school program starts on Monday, Sept. 9th

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Welcome to the 2019/2020 school year at Ruth King Elementary School!  We are looking forward to another exciting year filled with learning and adventure.  My first year here at Ruth King Elementary School was a great learning experience for me.  The staff, students and families were all very welcoming.  I am looking forward to another successful year and I am hopeful that your children will learn and thrive along with their peers.

Reminders for Parents:

–          Students will be returning to their teachers/classrooms from last year.  Please let your child know this and check the bulletin board in the front foyer.   If your child’s teacher is no longer here, go to their old classroom and someone will direct them to the correct place.

–          New students: please report to the office and we will direct you to the library where Mr. Dranchuk will help you find your classroom and temporary teacher for the first few days.

–          There will be an EARLY DISSMISSAL at 11:23am on Tuesday, September 3^rd

–          Final Classroom placements should be announced hopefully by Friday, September 6th at the latest.

–          LUNCH PROGRAM begins on Monday, September 9^th

–          AFTER SCHOOL CARE starts on Monday, September 9^th

–          BEFORE SCHOOL CARE starts on Tuesday, September 3^rd

–          Kindergarten students start on Friday, September 6^th with a gradual entry throughout the next week.

–          Please bring school supplies on Friday, September 6^th once your child knows who their new teacher will be.

Bell Schedule

I would like to point out that the school day has changed slightly from last year.  Here is the bell schedule which we will be following:

• First Bell 8:25am and classes begin at 8:30am
• Last Bell 2:23pm and classes are dismissed
• Recess is from 10:20am to 10:35am***
• Lunch is from 11:55pm to 12:40pm (bell rings at 12:35pm to line up)

It is the last week of school for the year and I would just like to say that I have had an amazing year getting to know many families and friends here at Ruth King.  We have a few more events this week which are listed below.  Have a fantastic summer everyone and we will see you all again in the fall.  School will start up again on Tuesday, September 3^rd.  Best wishes to all our grade 5 students who will be heading off to Middle School.  Happy Summer Holidays!
