Happy Monday Everyone!  Thank you all for an amazing first week back to school.  It seems to have gone fairly well and most of the children were happy to be back.  It was definitely overwhelming for a few new students but that is to be expected.

Before School Program (hours 7:30 to 8:30am)

This program includes snack/breakfast foods and is been a drop-in program.  We will be asking you to register for the program as we need to keep track of numbers and who is in the program for contact tracing.  We will have a form to fill out when you arrive.

Joanne Irving and Karen MacKay are the Before School Program Coordinators.

Lunch Program (hours 11:55am to 12:10pm)

This program will run five days a week.  Forms were sent home on Friday for you to opt into the program. Please fill out the form and return it to your child’s teacher with the payment that you can afford.

Karen MacKay is the Lunch Program Coordinator.

Protocols for Health & Safety

If your child is sick, please keep them home and monitor their symptoms.  In the event that your child is sick, please email your child’s teacher directly.  Teachers should be reaching out via email this week so that you have their email address.

Please let your child’s teacher know if your child has allergies, asthma inhalers, epi-pens etc.  Although you have filled out forms indicating these things, it is always important to talk to your child’s teacher directly so that nothing gets missed.  Please also inform your child’s teacher if there are two households and the schedule for when your child will be with which parent.  Thank you in advance for this.

Daily Health Checks and Other Consents

Please fill out the Parent Consent Forms online as soon as possible.  This is a requirement for your child to attend school.  Here is the link below and a list of all consents that you must complete.https://consent.sd62.bc.ca/apps/OnlineConsent  Thank you for doing this.

  • Aboriginal Education
  • Daily Student Health Check Agreement
  • General Consent for School Fieldtrips/Activities
  • Google Apps for Education Consent
  • Internet Access Consent
  • Media Consent
  • Online Learning Platforms Consent
  • School Cash Online Consent (used for lunch program and fundraising etc.)

School Grounds

The school grounds will be open for everyone this year.  Parents, when you are dropping off and picking up your child, please make sure you park on Matson Street.  Each classroom teacher will have a designated line up spot.  These line up spots are painted with white hearts on the playground.  Have your child show you where their line up spot is.

School Supplies and Food

  • Please send your child to school with a full, spill/leak-proof water bottlethey can have at their table or desk.
  • Students will need snacks for recess and a bagged lunch please.
  • Please send a pair of inside shoesfor school.  Intermediate students included.  Let’s try to keep our new gym floor sparkling and our hallways and learning environment clean.
  • Please keep a change of clothesin a labelled zip-lock bag in your child’s backpack. The zip-lock will remain in your child’s backpack until it is needed.
  • Please send all school supplies as soon as you can. Supply lists can be found on the Ruth King Website. http://ruthking.sd62.bc.ca
  • LABEL everything please… this includes jackets, clothing, lunch kits, school supplies etc.  So many things go to the Thrift Stores every year because we do not know who belong to the items in our “Lost & Found.”

If your child is Late for School

If your child arrives late for school, all our outside doors are locked at this time except the front door.  You must bring your child to the front doors.  They can grab a “Welcome” pass, sign in at the office and then head to class. This includes the portables because Jodi Ward, our secretary, will have to mark your child as late rather than absent.  Thank you for your attention to this policy.

29 Last Day of school for students!

Your child has expressed an interest in participating on the Ruth King Cross Country Team. All practices will be held at school over the lunch hour. The cross country meet will be held at JDF, on Wednesday May 11th.

In order to ensure that this race is successful, we would ask that you please read the following procedures and expectations.

Race:

  1. The race takes place on the lower trails, fields, and parking lot of Juan De Fuca.
  2. The race won’t begin until 3:30pm as we need to allow travel time for all schools.
  3. The race order will be Grade 4/5, Grade 3, and Grade 2 (this has been organized so there is no overlap in the races.)

Parking:

  1. It is a good idea to arrive early to find parking; showing up at 3:30pm might mean the runner will miss their race.
  2. Parking attendants will help to find parking spaces for all spectators, encouraging cars to park in the lower parking.
  3. The lowest parking lot is reserved for the finish line, handicap parking, and coaches or race supervisors who can’t arrive until the last minute.
  4. There is a second exit from the lower parking lots through DND property; this tends to be faster than trying to move back through the lineup up the hill.

Thank you from the Staff at Ruth King
