SLIME RECIPES – We are asking families to be aware of how their children are making slime and please be sure they are not using borax. There are many ways to make slime without borax and recipes can be found at

https://www.funwithmama.com/make-slime-without-borax/

If you are able to, please send in children’s books in good condition for our book rack in the foyer. Students check this regularly to ‘bring a book/take a book’ and having fresh titles helps keep it going!

The PAC is asking for gently used smaller toy donations for the Fun Fair. A donation bin is set up outside the office. Also if any families have a home business or work for a company that have anything they’d like to donate for the “Loonie/Twoonie” auction they can email  ruthkingpac@gmail.com. Attendance at school is important to us.  Please try to have your children at school on time and ready for school.  If your child is late, please remember to sign them in at the office before heading to class.  If your child is going to be away, please call the safe arrivals phone line: 250-478-1447 TOYS AT SCHOOL         Please remind students not to bring their own toys to school.  We have plenty of things for the students to do at school, and unfortunately their own toys tend to cause issues in the classroom and on the playground.  Thank you for monitoring what your child puts in their backpacks.

Hello Parents/Guardians,

Big shout out to Ms. Hesse and the Jump Rope for Heart volunteers.  The students and staff all had a great time on Friday! Please ensure all fundraising is returned to school. Thank you!

As the year is winding down, we are already starting to get ready for next year.  If you know that you will be moving and therefore leaving Ruth King, would you kindly let the office know so that we can start planning appropriately for our next year’s classes.  We already have 56 kindergarten students registered for next year, so Ruth King is growing along with the entire Sooke School District.

Hello Parents/Guardians,

Spring is definitely in the air!  Have you seen those cherry blossoms?  So beautiful, but hopefully you are not allergic to them.  It was literally raining cherry blossoms this past week.  Congratulations to all the cross-country runners who went out to run at Juan de Fuca on Wednesday after school.  Great job everyone!

The School Board has announced the Principal and Vice Principal positions for next year in the Sooke School District.  I will be continuing as Principal of Ruth King and Ms. Georgette Walker will be our Vice Principal.   Ms. Walker was the Acting Vice Principal for this past year, as our previous VP, Ms. Jeannie DeBoice, was working at the Board Office in the Curriculum Department.  Jeannie will not be returning to Ruth King next year and therefore Ms. Walker is officially Ruth King’s Vice Principal.  Congratulations Ms. Walker!

Have a great week everyone!

April 2, 2018

Dear Ruth King Families,

Thursday, April 11th   has been set aside for early dismissal. Students will be dismissed 3 hours earlier on this day (at 11:23) and there will be no school on Friday April 12th as this is a Professional Development Day.

Your child’s classroom will be open from 11:30-12:30 and 4:30-6:30 to showcase student learning. Grade 5 students will also be displaying and selling their Young Entrepreneur Fair projects in the gym during this time. On Monday, April 15th, classes will have the opportunity to purchase items from the Fair, so students are welcome to bring money should they so choose.

If your child’s teacher requires a one on one meeting, the teacher will contact you to make arrangements.  If you would like to request a one on one meeting with your child’s teacher, please feel free to do so anytime.

We look forward to seeing you on April 11th.

Thank you,

Vicki Ives

Principal

Hello Parents/Guardians,

Thank you to all the parents who came out to support the grade 4’s during their “Young Entrepreneurs Expo” and for all the parents who came out to cheer for their child and the Ruth King basketball team during the Jamborees last week.  The students played hard and did an amazing job.  Thank you also to the coaches.

The time changed this weekend so you may find that everyone is just a little more tired.  Please try to get your children to bed a little earlier this week, to make up for the lost hour.  It is important that you try to get your child to school on time.  All those lost minutes do add up.  Have a great week everyone!
